Dress rehearsal for Jónsi’s live show

Sunday, April 4th, 2010

jónsi will be joined on his world tour by alex playing guitar, úlfur hansson on bass, þorvaldur þorvaldsson on drums and ólafur björn ólafsson on piano. the tour kicks off in vancouver on april 6th, followed by 40+ concerts in 13 concerts (more to be announced). check out the full concert listing on jonsi.com/concerts.

a few weeks back we sent out a request to people on jónsi’s mailing list, asking for extras who would like to appear, dressed as animals, in a video shoot with jónsi in london. we didn’t tell people the exact nature of the event apart from that.

on friday evening everyone arrived to 3 mills studios, where the rehearsals for jónsi’s live show were taking place over the previous few weeks. it was a fantastic sight to see everyone dressed up in the outfits or with animal masks on – but still, people weren’t really sure what they had come to see.

the outfits were fantastic and we’d like to thank to everyone for the effort they went to, here are some examples:

so, back to the evenings proceedings. the production manager gave a quick introduction highlighting safety, fire escapes and the logistics of the evening. he then handed over to mark grimmer of 59 productions who gave an introduction to the event. mark then told the audience the main purpose of the evening was a little more than a video shoot – the extras would be the first audience to see the new live show in full – the new live band, the set, the songs, the lighting and so on.

jónsi came on stage with his new live band; alex somers playing guitar, úlfur hansson on bass, þorvaldur þorvaldsson on drums and ólafur björn ólafsson on piano. over the next seventy minutes or so they played all the songs from go as well as a few brand new songs.

thanks to 3 mills, the crew, emi, 59 productions, the management, jónsi and the band as well as the audience for a fantastic evening.
